Being in the Crowd

I've been thinking about Jesus and his ministry. I've been trying to figure out his methods and strategies, thinking of some way to duplicate his greatness. (First off-HA--I am not Jesus and I would never compare myself to him but I do strive to be like him.)

(hold on to that past thought)

So today we had open house at our school. All of the new and nervous 6th graders came in and of course the 7th and 8th graders made an appearance as well. I was pleasantly surprised at how many of my previous students came running in my room for a hug!

I was starting to put the two together. There's a reason that when I pass my old kids in the hallway that they reach for a hug or high hive. They want attention from me and expect it when they see me.

Jesus was in the crowds more so than on the podium. He was preaching and teaching-hands on. He was in the midst of the people-he was on their level. Everyone wanted his attention-he drew crowds and groups of people everywhere he went.

(how do these tie together?)

I put a lot of effort into loving on my kids. I am in the crowd with them--I'm on their level. I'm tangible to them---they have my undivided personal attention and it works.

I'm not like Jesus--not even close---but I see why his strategies work. He changed hearts by being in the crowd--not above it.
