Only Look Left

John was driving tonight as we conquered some errands around town. I'll admit something I'm very ashamed of: I do not wear my seat belt on a regular basis. I know what you're thinking....that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. But it's true. In my mind I have a billion reasons (which really are stupid) not to wear it. I kind of think it's like smokers---they know it's harmful to their health but they continue to smoke. I guess I'm a habitual non-seat belter. Pray for me....I'm working on it (for some reason its easier for me to buckle in the summer so pray for weather change).

So tonight we're driving and I was beginning to feel a little unsafe without my seat belt on. So....I put it on. John was doing an okay driving (which is always better than the way I drive) but something told me to put it on.

As we're driving (this story is not as exciting as what your brain thinks this story will be)I remembered a time when I was young driving with my grandpa. We were driving in their mint green Oldsmobile mini-van. We were crossing over a 2 lane hwy--224, in Ohio. My grandpa looked to the left and started to cross the road. A car was headed directly for my side of the door so of course I did as any 10 year old would do, I screamed STOP.

Grandpa slams the breaks and responds, "well, by gosh, you forgot to tell me a car is coming."
I said, "what?"
He said, "well if you're in the passenger side your supposed to check to the right. You didn't say not to cross."

WOW---lol. I was thinking of that tonight....my grandparents have been together for so long that he didn't think twice about the fact that grandma is the other half of his brain while driving. What was he thinking? What was I thinking riding with him? Good thing I had my seat belt on for that ride!
