I was having a conversation with one of my students about conflict in my class (as in the literature types of conflict...man vs. nature, man vs. man, etc).
I had given the kids scenarios and within their group they were to categorize which type of conflict the scenario was. I approached one student and he said, "Ms. Merkle, we aren't really sure what this one is."
I look at the paper and it reads something like: Jimmy is injured by the porcupine quills.
I look at him and say, "is a porcupine a human?"
he says: "yes."
I say: "It is?"
he responds: "Kind of"
Okay people---lets make sure we are clear on one thing--animals are not humans. Yes-many people treat their animals better than they treat most humans but this is becoming a misconception in society.
