While a student was reading a non-fiction article and taking a quiz, she comes to my desk...
Her: I can't find the answer.
Me: Go back and re-read until you find it.
Her: It's not in there. I already read it twice.
Me: What's the question?
Her: I can't find the city closest to the wildfires in California. (on a map)
Me: What are your answer choice options?
Her: Well...the only one close to the wildfires is Los Angeles.
Me: Why wont that work then? What's Los Angeles?
Her: A country.
Me: really?
Her: Well no, its a continent!
Me: It is? Does the map show that?
Her: Ya its right inside California and that's a country.
On the same day, the math teacher had a conversation with one of his students which was spurred on by the fact that the boy doesn't speak correct English. Went like this:
Teacher: Were you born in another country? Were your parents?
Student: Ya, Pennsylvania.
