Piedmont vs. Me

(this is not an insightful or interesting post with important information)

Last year (my first year in the house) I kept the temperature at around 60 degrees. My gas bill went from 40.00 to 280.00 in one month---ONE MONTH. The worst part....I wasn't even here for half of the month! So.....I attempted to advocate for myself and take Piedmont on with full force. To make a long story short, our conversation progressed to me raising my voice demanding that someone come out to the house and read the meter---or fix it and the not so patient employee basically telling me to get over the idea of anyone coming to check my meter. Great.

(one year later)

John is now in the house (2 bodies is warmer than 1) and the poor guy is hating my stubborn trait. I feel that I need to prove a point to Piedmont and therefore we are keeping the heat at 50 degrees (they do not get our money). We purchased 2 electric heaters and basically freeze all the time unless we are sitting directly in front of the heater.

Sadly enough, I'm perfectly fine with it. It's amazing how being stubborn about something can keep the adrenaline pumping long enough to create warmth. John on the other hand is far from excited (for many reasons).

If the fireplace doesn't do the trick.....I have no further back up plans and I don't know how long I can hold John off from frostbite.

Oh Piedmont....go away.

OH, you are too cute! Now that you have been in the house for a year, they might put you on a "budget". I freaked out my first year here too.....got used to the tiny bills and then the whoppers in Winter killed me. Give them a jingle, and as for it.....we are 4 people, keep our house at 68-70, with 2 furnaces and only pay $70 a month. They will look at your year last year and give you a projection. I do this with Duke Energy too, because it was the opposite - A/C kills your bill in the summertime!
On another note - coffee this week or next....maybe in January.....?
