As we approach the foster parenting time of our lives....I am trying to be extremely observant of different parenting styles, skills and techniques. As a teacher I feel that I'm constantly surrounded with kids and parents, of all types, backgrounds, and philosophies. Today though was a first. (so manu firsts lately)
I received an e-mail that I was copied on from a mom to her child. The e-mail said something like this:
"Daniel" (changed name for confidentiality)-
I have asked you several times to speak with Mrs. Crowley about your no-name papers. If you have noticed I copied Mrs. Crowley on this e-mail for accountability. Please take care of this.
Love you
Mom
Hmmmmmmm. A few interesting parenting "things" to note from this:
1. Do not e-mail the child if I want them to do something
2. Maybe my child isnt getting their work done because they are busy checking their e-mail
3. The teacher probably does not need to be involved in my "threatening" conversations with the child
4. Attempt face to face communication---then move into consequences.
Parenting....I'm sure we will screw it up. I'm sure this might go awful. I still will not result to e-mail. Slap me if I do!
