Goodwill= Good for us!

One of the first things that attracted me to my fiance was his no shame-goodwill--cheap date--spending habits. I knew immediately we were a match financially! From the start we have found fun in doing the small things for entertainment, shopping, dining, and buying.

I am a major Craigslist shopper for big items (it runs in my family blood)--I've bought my armoire, kitchen table, sleigh bed, and coffee/end tables from sellers on Craigslist. I am so proud of the way we have furnished our house with such a little amount of money spent! It boggles my mind that young adults in their twenties--just starting out---want to live like our parents live in their 50's!!!! They want to get married, buy a house, own new cars, dine out at steak restaraunts, and buy new clothes and furniture to boot. This overwhelms me---it's honestly hard for me to be happy for these people because I feel sorry for them in 2 years when the newness wears away and the debt is still not paid off. scary!!! The basic number one cause of divorce is finance. I worry that alot of couples are marrying themselves into debt and setting themselves up for failure.

John and I miss the mark on a lot of things---a lot. We have major weaknesses in other areas.... Thank goodness we are covered in grace but thank God he has imparted wisdom in us with our finances.

Below are low budget-goodness things we enjoy!

Goodwill/Platos Closet--you have to be patient but its worth the time. Some rich person wore a shirt for about 3 hours and wanted to donate it to people like us! (I do try to patrol John's t-shirt choices---some are scary and they are usually the ones he is really proud of)

Dollar Theatre--Monday is actually only .50!!!! (renting from Blockbuster is almost 5.00!!)

AMC--5.00 movie ticket Mon-Thurs. (these are the MUST SEE picks on rare occasion--usually the chick flicks i feel i need to see!)

Aldi Grocery--you can't find all groceries on your list but I can usually cover 80% of what I need at 1/2 the cost! (no meat here please---i tried that.....sorta scary..lol)

Garage Sales--we consider that entertainment. think about it.

When John and I do go on a date---which is about 1-2 times per month that we go "out"--we do it under 10.00. We make ourselves choose---sometimes we will eat at home and then go "do something" or we will do a free activity and split a meal at a restaraunt.

I heard a financial tip once I really held onto---choose a few things you are willing to spend money on. For me---it's saving money to travel home. If you have a love for food--let that be your spending thing. Another friend of mine saves all the time just to take trips. Whatever your thing is---enjoy it!

(John categorizes this shirt as one of his "nice" goodwill t-shirts. lol. if there really is such a thing.)
