This blows my mind. All of the time. Without fail. It makes my eyes water. It makes my throat tighten up. It causes me to stop in the airport and turn around to say "thank you."
It's the men and women who fight for this country--still. Its a calling I do not think I can humanly comprehend and accept. Why would someone willingly give of their life for our ungrateful selves?
Since I've moved to Charlotte I have flown probably 20-25 times in the last three years. Without fail, when I'm walking the airport killing time I always pass a military group preparing to fly to their next destination. Without fail I start to tear up when I sit and watch them conversing and going about their business. I feel such gratitude and admiration towards all of them---it chokes me up!!
So many Americans roll their eyes at war. They can't force themselves to thank a soldier because they don't agree with a presidents decision to engage in war. They boldly state their uninformed opinions about war directly in front of soldiers families and soldiers themselves. Whether we agree with war or not---there is nothing to disagree about soldiers. They fight for us. They follow orders. Because of them---I'm sitting on my lazy butt, in a free country, in a comfortable home, with all of my needs and wants met.
Thank you U.S. military. You do a job I could never do and you do it well. You give up all luxuries and time with loved ones. You give your freedom in the U.S. to fight for mine.
