I'm a woman of God. I'm a wife. I'm a daughter. I'm a sister. I'm a teacher. I'm living by God's grace to bring him glory, by him and through him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17

God in Haiti
I've been thinking a lot about Haiti. Once again--thinking. Not determining. Not assuming. Just thinking.
Comments have flown back and forth on christian talk shows and on secular ones as well. All of the hype about Haiti (deservedly so), has caused quite the intellectual frenzy. I have asked God more than once, why? How can such a large number of people just be wiped out?
I feel like God has been silent-and when he's silent in my gut I have a feeling that he wants me to seek him. Naturally, if i'm not hearing him in prayer, I need to check his word.
The bible gives examples of numerous occasions when God allowed or destroyed thousands of people similar to the events in Haiti. (God flooded the earth, he wiped away an entire city because he couldn't find a righteous man, he allowed hunger and violence)
Some people are assuming that God is punishing Haiti. Others believe the exact opposite when saying that God would never do or allow something like this to happen.
I've been thinking and my thought is this: there are many mysteries that we will never have explained to us...the bible says so. It is not up to man to decide when or how or why God can or does allow things to happen. Yes----God did allow this to happen; To say that he didn't would say that there is a greater power than he--there isn't. God does work for the greater good and although this is devastating, good will come from it...he says so in his word.
Our calling as Christians is to feed the poor and evangelize to the unsaved. We might be blessed enough to comprehend God's reasoning someday--until then--he just calls us to be obedient. SERVE.LOVE.SHARE THE GOSPEL.
