Foster Class.....the final countdown!!!

We are within a month of possibly being "with child." So funny because we are not even close to being equipped or ready for that matter, but, too bad, because it's coming ready or not!

Tonights class was a very realistic view of how our monthly team meetings will go with caseworkers, social workers, psychologist, therapist, parents, etc. We were engaged in active role play tonight and boy did it get heated. Everyone chimed in with their own two cents of how to handle the situation with the child and what methods to try to get positive results; within moments people were becoming defensive, assertive, and controlling. It was extremely eye opening to see how other people have so much more wisdom than we do, yet, we do bring some perspective to the table. I truly believe John's personality will significantly impact the room. John has such poise and definitely thinks before he speaks which is sometimes my area of weakness. He also carries himself with such a controlled demeanor which I on the other hand do not. I'm sure by the time we have our first meeting John and I will pow wow a strategy of who should do most of the talking....my vote is for him to do it!

We also got the scoop tonight on the details of how involved this process is on a weekly basis. Our case manager at Thompson will be in our home once a week and we will be involved in the childs therapy most likely once per week. Because we are taking on theraputic foster care, we also have weekly paperwork to complete on the progress of the child. All in all, it's a bit more work than just "love" and "care."
We've known this all along, can't wait to get started, and really hopeful that it will be great.
